Learning to Use PDAs

 

Palm PDAs:

 

1.         On the PDA, go through the onscreen tour.  Using the stylus, tap Quick Tour icon.

 

1.              Try out Graffiti.

a.     On Palm, tap Quick Tour.

b.     Tap Graffiti 2

c.     Follow directions to try out Palm handwriting.

 

2.              Enter a reminder alarm.

a.     Tape Home icon.

b.     Tap Calendar icon.

c.     Tap day calendar (one-dot icon) on bottom left of screen.

d.     Tap on a line next to a time of day (your choice)

e.     Now, using Graffiti, write in a reminder message.

f.      Tap Details at bottom of screen

g.     Tape checkbox next to Alarm.

h.     Select how far ahead of your appointment you want the alarm to sound

i.      Tap OK at bottom left of screen.

 

3.              Try out Note Pad.

a.     Go back to Home screen.

b.     Tape Note Pad.

c.     Tap New at bottom of screen.

d.     Draw on the screen with the stylus (smiley face - message, whatever)

e.     Now set an alarm for your note

                                               i.     Tap Note at top left of screen

                                             ii.     Select Options

                                            iii.     Select alarm

                                            iv.     Select day and time for your alarm to go off

                                             v.     Now when the alarm goes off, your note will appear onscreen

 

4.              Try out Contacts

a.     Go back to Home screen

b.     Tap Contacts

c.     Tap New at bottom of screen

d.     Using graffiti, enter your name and email address

e.     Tap Done

f.      Now tap your name on the list, and it appears onscreen in detail

 

5.              Beam your address to another PDA

a.     Tap Contact at upper left of screen

b.     Tap Beam Contact

c.     Hold your PDA about six inches from the eye of another PDA (both have to be on) and your address will beam to the other PDA

 

6.              Hot-synch your PDA with the computer

a.     Attach USB cord to PDA and computer (only those that say PALM)

b.     On PDA homescreen, tap Hot Sync

c.     Tap Hot Sync icon on Hot Sync screen

d.     PDA and computer will now swap Palm data

 

7.              View Palm Desktop

a.     Select Palm Desktop onscreen icon on computer

b.     Select Calendar icon

c.     Look at the reminder messages you had programmed on PDA

d.     Tap contacts icon and view your addresses

 

8.              Download a picture to PDA

a.     On Palm Desktop, select Photo

b.     Tap ADD on menu and select a photo from the hard drive of the computer

c.     Now perform a Hot-sync with PDA again (see above)

d.     On PDA, go to Home screen

e.     Tap Photo icon

f.      Your photo will appear in an album there.  Tap it.

g.     Your picture fills screen.

 

9.              Read an e-book

a.     On PDA homescreen, tap PalmReader

b.     A list of books on PDA will appear.  Tap on one of them.

c.     Select Open at bottom left of screen.

d.     To turn the page, tap bottom right of screen

e.     To go back to previous page, tap top left of screen.
